HVVMG expanding appointment hours past 5 p.m.
Doctor, family nurse practitioner catering to patients with regimented work schedules

For people working nine-to-five jobs, finding time to schedule a doctor’s appointment is not
always easy. Many physicians only see their patients during conventional work hours and taking
time off may not be an easy solution.
After talking to members, Heritage Victor Valley Medical Group realized the need to create more
offset hours to help hard working people.
Starting Sept. 5, a doctor and family nurse practitioner at HVVMG’s Barstow clinic will be
accepting patients past 5 p.m. to accommodate those with regimented work schedules.
Kate Donkor FNP will work 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Dr. Marlon
Russell will see patients from 9:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. on Wednesdays.
“As a person who works Monday through Friday, eight to five, I have to take a day to half a day
off from work to go see my doctor, so sometimes I don’t go because of this,” Clinic Manager
Ronnie Arreola said. “If we have early or later appointments available, I would only have to
request a few minutes or maybe no time at all.”
Depending on the demand, more HVVMG medical professionals could look to extend their
hours to provide more flexibility for members.
“If the need is shown by the community and this is reflected by the number of appointments
used, we would love to expand the program,” Arreola said.
HVVMG is not only looking to accommodate members after the normal work day ends, but
before it even starts with appointments starting as early as 7:30 a.m.
